Formatting Nightmare: Pasting Content From Word Into WordPress From Firefox
If you are new to WordPress and using Microsoft Word as your editor, TinyMCE for WordPress, and Firefox as your browser there are a few steps that you will need to take so that you do not end up with a messy and annoying front end of garbled and coded text.
This is what the code looks like when you copy and paste formatting directly from Microsoft Word 2007 into the back-end of WordPress using TinyMCE Advanced editor.
Obviously you will not want any of your blog posts to look like this! There are options in WordPress that will allow you to paste this same text as plain text or to remove the formatting completely.
There is also an excellent WordPress Tutorial over at likoma.com with complete instructions, including a video, that will show you how to clean up Microsoft Word formatting from WordPress.
For the technically savvy daredevils out there you can download the WordPress Word Plug-in and edit the tiny_mce init file. You can find the instructions on how to accomplish this over at the TinyMCE Forum at moxie.net.
If you don’t want to mess with any of the above solutions, simply paste from Word into Notepad and from Notepad into the WordPress back-end to remove Word formatting.
Until next time – safe surf!
